Health Effects of Poor Sleep

Skipping a few hours or getting poor sleep is extremely damaging to your health.

Sleep, wellness, and health are directly related. Your body needs sleep to recover, heal, and grow. Lack of quality sleep is known to put us at a higher risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and other injuries.

That is why we, Legend Sleep, concentrate on quality sleep and do not cut any corners when it comes to design and materials. The average human body needs around 7-9 hours of sleep each night to be fully rested and recovered and our products make that possible.

Our health is affected (detrimentally) after a few days of missing or of poor sleep. Our bodies' immunity, inflammation defense, and overall response to stress are damaged. These effects immediately act on our body and cause even further issues. It's a snowball effect where issues keep getting bigger and bigger and this is all just caused by a sleep deficiency.

Some of the major health effects that can be minimized are the following. Poor sleep is known to make women more susceptible to breast cancer. The body produces melatonin during sleep to balance estrogen levels. Without melatonin or with decreased melatonin levels, estrogen is continually produced and never balanced which is linked to an increased rate of breast cancer.

Next, our hearts need time to relax, recover, and regulate blood pressure. When you skip sleep, the heart is under continued stress and has no time to recover. During sleep our heart rate and blood pressure drop, so our heart isn't working as hard and can recover with less stress on it. This continued stress on the heart increases the risk of heart disease.

Lastly, with the heart working all the time and continually pushing blood at a higher capacity, blood flow to the brain is also at a high level which puts our bodies at an increased risk for strokes.

So remember, our bodies need an average of 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day to be fully rested and recovered. Make it a priority to get great sleep every night so your body is rested and you can remain healthy. If you are sleeping poorly, it may be time to replace your mattress, pillows, and sheets.
